NAG 5.6: Outreach Health and Safety

Policy Reference Number:

Outreach Health and Safety

Health and Safety is important in any workplace. Here are some school procedures that cover us in our different situations - in host schools and in homes.

If working with Te Kura students please also refer to their guide (Teacher resources, Specialist teacher, Te Kura Newsletters)

The place of work must be appropriate and safe. If at any time you have concerns please notify us.

If the student’s programme involves activities away from school or home the school/parent/supervisor (Te Kura) is responsible for providing the transport and supervision. Arahunga Outreach staff may be asked to be additional supervisors.

Arahunga Outreach staff are not permitted to transport students. In exceptional circumstances prior approval may be given.

The parent/guardian or other approved supervisor must be in attendance either in the student’s home or at another approved venue when Arahunga Outreach staff are working with the student.

If you have any concerns

Get in touch with us straight away if you encounter any of the following problems:

There is no other adult present while you are working with the student.

You are asked to look after other children in the home.

You are concerned about the student’s physical safety or mental health.

You are concerned by physical or verbal behaviours.

There are any other health or safety issues.

Contact your Team Leader. They will pass on concerns if needed.

Incident reports

Sometimes there can be a need to fill in an incident report. If the incident happens in a host school, follow their procedure for recording the incident.

If the incident happens with a Te Kura student, use this template - (link will be provided when Te Kura send the template) A copy is sent to Moira Foreman.

A copy/photocopy of your incident report also needs to be sent to Annette Aldridge.

These occasions could be: If you have an injury while working with a student, or if there has been an incident with behaviour that needs to be recorded so more support can be accessed.
